دار ~
Dar, the word for home in Arabic, was born as a supper club to facilitate connection amongst creative folks in Boston.
The supper club is based on the simple premise that in a time of increased isolation, we can still come together for a meal, put our phones down, and bridge the gap of the stranger to make a new friend. No ai algorithms, membership fees, or applications required.
Dar events are inspired by — but not explicitly themed around — the art that fills my cup. Past events grappled with the questions stirred up by:
* Nuestra Tierra (2025) by Lucrecia Martel
* Alienation brought on by the rapid rise of technology
* The communal spaces and cafes detailed in Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Dispossessed
* The Fall (2006) by Tarsem Singh
* The ephemerality and shaky recall of memory
* The story within the menu at A Casa do Porco
* Shifting Baselines (2025) by Julien Elie
* The way that Arabic fairytales begin with the phrase “كان ياما كان”, the equivalent of the English “once upon a time,” literally meaning “there was and there wasn’t”
